3BR Cottage Now Includes Nuclear Power Plant

A three-bedroom fisherman's cottage on half an acre of land in Kent, England sounds just about perfect -- if you happen to forget to mention that it sits next to two nuclear power plants.

That's what Geering & Colyer, the estate agents who listed the "bungalow" at a modest £247,000 (about $395,000), seemed to be thinking when they listed the property on their website without mentioning the prime location.

When seen in photographs from the front of the property, the adorable fisherman's cottage looks just as advertised: three beds, knotty pine charm, and just a stone's throw from Europe's largest shingle beach. (The acclaimed art movie director, Derek Jarman, even had a holiday home nearby.)

The only problem of course is that when photographed from the other side, Westbeach can be plainly seen to be just 80 yards from Dungeness A and B, two of England's largest nuclear power plants.

The Geering & Colyer makes the location sound absolutely picturesque: "Located on the Dungeness National Nature Reserve is this exceptional detached fisherman's cottage set in approximately half an acre. The property offers three bedrooms, two receptions, loft room, conservatory, kitchen and bathroom. This is a property not to be missed!

Not, unless you are Homer Simpson and require the perfect commute. Check out the photo gallery, here.

Buyer Beware: UK House Next to Nuclear Plant
This three bedroom English cottage was listed for sale at 247,000 euros, but the listing failed to mention it's just 100 yards from the Dungeness A and B nuclear power plants in Kent.

As a Realtor you always want to make it sound perfect, HOWEVER, there are disclosure laws and they MUST disclose this fact as it is not only a health hazard but it depreciates the property extensively! It would be interesting to see what the comparables sold for in the near area.

The only nightmare is the view. The occupants will receive more radiation from their T.V. As long as its not well water, no ill effects.
Guess nuclear power is only a nightmare if you love power blackouts and cheap power.

We really wish that you guys would stop putting this trash on every blog that we come upon. Obviously the only people that are going to visit your websites are from the same village you are from. So please just go home, the villagers are missing you!

Unfortunately, you can't always judge a house at first glance. My husband and I have been looking for homes for the past few months and have found that Realtors are notorious for posting misleading photos and descriptions. One house we looked at actually had one of those 'iron maidens' (those huge high wires) right in the back yard!

The realtors could have penetrated a whole new buying segment if they marketed this property in the Green Rags. A beautiful home next to a safe, clean dynamic energy source that provides gazoodles of power hither and fro.

I'm certain every correct thinking green bean who was in the market for a home/green status symbol, would race for the line like a pussy with her cat on fire!

But no ... no, sadly they can't quite wrap their heads around facts when the facts stand contrary to a well greased narrative that shuns a technology that goes boom, when applied in another fashion.

Perhaps the realtors might counter this irrationality by applying an image association technique. Associate nuclear with sex! Nuclear bras, nuclear sex toys, like big rockets and such .... nuclear orgasms anyone?

I wondered if the previous residents are dead and glowing from radiation posioning, and was that the reason there was a sale going. Such a lovely place everything glows no electricity needed...including the fish.

I don't know what would be worse, living next to two active nuclear plants or next to a nuclear waste storage facility.

The UK government needs to do the right thing and buy that property from the owners. The owners will never be able to sell it and I'm positive that they didn't ask their government to build three nuclear plants adjacent to their property.

How completely awful!

I grew up in an area with several nuclear facilities. Fortunately, our government decided to buy all the surrounding land and waterfront and turned it into one giant preserve.
With the power plants kept fairly hidden from view in the center.

It protected property values.
People want cheap energy, but they don't want to have to look at the plants.

Oh come on people! It isnt like the realtors are HIDING anything! I am sure they are hoping to get people to not eliminate it right away, see it, and then maybe decide to overlook the power plant. Disclosure... disclose what, you can SEE IT! And, if the powerplant isnt a part of the property you are buying, they DONT have to talk about it. Would you disclose in your listing that your red neck neighbor likes to walk around the yard 3 times a week naked and doing lunges... NO! Of course not.

This just goes to show how many people are still ignorant to how safe and effective nuclear energy really is.
