Sweet San Francisco Rental: SOMA Lofts for $1,135

I'm pretty sure I've been to a party in the building where this sweet rental is located. As I recall, it was a really amazing SOMA loft. Besides having really, really high ceilings, the loft had access to the roof, which was a great spot for entertaining friends. I think the guy who lived there worked at Google and we all drank beer on the roof and marveled at the 360-degree view of the city from up there.

If you enjoy arty, loft-living style then this would be a great San Francisco rental. The building offers studios for $1,135 with 275 square feet of space, and 1-bedrooms for $1,1850 at 600 square feet. Sure that doesn't sound like a lot of space, but the ceilings are really high so you wont feel like you're crammed in a New York shoebox.

These modern lofts are affordable and in the heart of San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood. If you work in the SOMA area, you'll be able to walk home and have soup for lunch. The building features a tranquil, bamboo courtyard, where you can lay out a yoga mat and enjoy peace in the heart of the city.

Besides that, the SOMA area has the best San Francisco has to offer, with great dining, fun clubs and shopping. I've been in this building: take my word for it.

Okay, it's true. The further you go from the center of San Francisco the more space you get with your sweet rental. Though it's not for me, living outside the city does have its perks. And this sweet rental is situated right off of the 280 and 101 Freeways, a great spot if you need to commute to San Francisco or Silicon Valley. If you don't drive, Candlestick Point provides a free shuttle service to and from the BART station. And this rental apartment's in walking distance to MUNI and SamTrans. And did I mention the great view of the San Francisco Bay?

But why spend time looking outdoors in this sweet rental? There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms in this apartment in the secure, gated luxury Candlestick Park apartment complex.

Candlestick Park is where the Giants played in their heyday. (Though it was rated one of the worst stadiums in baseball.)

Today we've got free rent if you share a master bedroom with a s/w/m, a trailer available if you do chores for a NASCAR-loving couple, and the joys of a wonderful commune called ZAMI (that is if you past the interrigation first).

Come on and climb abroad for more classic Craigslist roommate nightmare scenarios.The Ad:
R U a single female who needs a free room ASAP?
s/w/m offers free room amd board for a single female, share a master bedroom down town San Jose

Our Take:
Okay, this is direct and to the point. The ad doesn't offer any other information about the master bedroom or the apartment or the s/w/m for that matter. At least s/w/m could take the time to spell downtown correctly.. But hey, free rent is free rent.

The Ad:
Discriminatory Adds
This is America--a nation of diversity. The Bay Area is one of the most diverse places in the world and prides itself for truly being tolerant. Yet on the Bay Area's most prominate free commerce site discrimination is rampant. People offered the American dream constantly post discriminating against others hoping for the same thing.

If you see anyone denying anyone, anything for the sake of their age, sex, sexual orientation RACE or any other reason that you know is wrong, the least you can do is flag them.

What is common here on CL?

People saying female only in their adds. Others saying Chinese only and there are many other variations.

Flag their posts, scold them and help them understand the American dream.

Our Take:
Hell ya! This is America. And in America you should have to live with a female if you want a male, or a male if you want a female. In fact, you should flags ads that say they require references or want to "interview" you before moving in. This is America remember not some stupid place like Sweden or Canada.

The Ad:

Wow, becoming a roommate at Zami is no easy task. we "prospies have to come to at least two house meetings and two house dinners, then we'll be able to live with 16-19 people, most likely in one room with bunk beds.

The Ad:
Free Room and Board for Couple or Single (FOOT HILLS, AMADOR COUNTY)
We have a travel trailer down by our barn that is used just for sleeping ONLY. It has a microwave, fridge and satelitte hookup. All the cooking etc is done up at the main house. What it does is give someone their privacy at night and on their off days. Its not set up for showering etc..IT IS JUST USED FOR SLEEPING AND SNACKS AT NIGHT AND WATCHING TV. We also have wireless internet.The nearest town (although a small one is 9 miles away, Ione, Plymouth (also small) is 6 miles away and Jackson..large (we have Jackson Rancheria Casino is 11 miles away. This is VERY quiet and remote. I dont want you to think its not. There are 5 homes on our road and we are all 25 acre parcels..so its quiet. My husband and I like it that way. Try to call when you can..I am interviewing all this week. one of the days off will probablly be sunday..as we attend church and thats NASCAR day also!

Our Take:
Hmm? Sleep in a trailer where I'll eat snacks and watch TV in exchange for doing chores for a NASCAR-loving couple in the middle of a nowhere does sound appealing. Maybe I'll consider this once I begin my drinking problem.

We really like Potrero Hill. It has one of the best views of downtown San Francisco. The view is so fantastic, that the house in the movie "Pacific Heights" was, in real life, located in Potrero HIll. That's why you'll enjoy this sweet rental located in this fabulous San Francisco neighborhood.

But unfortunately nothing lasts forever; this sweet rental is only available for a short term rental. But if you're coming here for business or simply new to the city, you should really look into this place. What you get is a fully furnished, 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom sunny place to call your own. (At least during the time of rental.) Yes, it's fully furnished. Just sign the agreement, walk in and set up shop.
Hardwood floors, hardwood floors, and more hardwood floors. (Did I mention the hardwood floors?)The bedrooms, on the other hand, have brand new carpeting along with huge windows in every room for that awesome San Francisco scenery. Bask in the warm sunshine throughout the day.

If you like cooking this Sweet Rental has a gourmet kitchen with gorgeous stainless-steel appliances, dishwasher, granite counter tops and all the high end Calphalon pots. Why not be a regular Chef Ramsey in your new Sweet Rental and cook up a wonderful meal bought with fresh veggies from the shops right around the corner?

At the end of the day, take a refreshing bath. No need to choose which bathroom; both have a large tub.

$600 COULD YOU LIVE WITH A GAY HOOKER IN TIGHT-QUARTERS? (Echo Park)
I am searching for the most Unique person to share the most Unique living situation, on a short-to-medium-term basis. Includes utilities and very-minimal Cable.

YOU MUST:
- smoke (or be extremely OK with a smoker environment).
- be a night owl (or be totally cool and able to function with one in the household).
- be very sexually enlightened and OK with my frequent sexing, or sexual yourself in similar ways.
- be OK with the tight quarters involved and sometimes-discombobulated living room.
- be OK with a cool Kitty in the mix.
- be financially stable (I don't believe in credit checks on roomies, so not that); simply seeking someone who can afford it and isn't constantly broke.

I AM:
- a 47yo single gay guy; I sex a lot - often here.
- I smoke cigs and love it. This is a smoker environment. I am a very clean smoker.
- I drink copious amounts of beer, but am hardly ever inebriated (it's the German blood). I am an occasional dabbler in 420, and that tends to be it; I rarely, but once in a blue moon, will indulge in other things; and I avoid Meth-heads like the Plague.

THE PLACE/SITUATION:
- It's a small apt: a semi-one bedroom/studio; there's a "main area" that contains the general living-room type area, the kitchen, and my desk/work space set up behind the living room area (like a studio).
- There's a hallway off the main room, off of which is the small bathroom, which leads to a medium-size bedroom (with no door, but a curtain - and it's actually quite private); THAT'S the room I have available.
- So, I am looking for someone (male or female, gay, bi or straight) who would get into making that back room their own domain; the main room/kitchen is wide open as a hang; I will just work away at the desk; I am very flexible, easy going and low maintenance.
- I get to work from the moment I get up (usually no earlier than noon) till 2-3a (sometimes longer); I do projects on the computer for income, and I cruise for sex.
- I sleep on the living room couch; I love it.
- I can pretty much "sleep through anything" - it doesn't bug me if you are up and around while I am crashed; I just don't want to "bug you" crashed out till mid-day.

IN SUM:
- I don't "need" to rent the room;
- I have done this before with great success and fun; I am looking for the kindred-spirit, company, and fun more than anything else - and a little help on the rent never hurts.
- I am fun and wacky, and I like Unique souls.
- I also like to help people who might just need this very kind of short-term set-up, maybe to reorganize or whatever.

Our Take:
This is my nightmare. This-is-my-nightmare. Gosh, I might be flexible with almost everything but the smoking. Sure I don't mind the frequent sexing, but I really, really can't take the smoking. I don't mind that you'll be cruising for sex from the minute you wake up, but smoking? Come'on! On the up side: your new roommate will also be drunk all the time.

Sweet S.F. Rental: Beautiful 3BR Pacific Heights Home, $5,900

There's sweet rentals, and then there's really sweet rentals. This is one of the latter. It's a bit pricey, but seemingly has it all. Not only is it everything you'd want in a 3-bedroom, 4-bathroom home, it's also in a posh neighborhood, which will impress friends and relatives alike.

It's just three blocks away from the Fillmore Street shopping district and picturesque Alta Plaza Park. But best of all, this classic San Francisco home has what I've always dreamed of: a stunning backyard with not only a garden, but also heat lamps for those cold San Francisco nights, and stainless steel outdoor kitchen for cooking up some tasty barbecued ribs. Oh, did I mention there's also a spa in the backyard? Let the luau begin!

You get a lotta home with this sweet rental. If you've got a family you'll like that the master bedroom is on one side of the house while the other two bedrooms are separated for privacy. If you're moving in with roommates you might like that feature just as well.

Do you like California avocado trees? If so, then get used to them because the master bedroom overlooks wonderful avocado trees. How Idyllic does that sound? There's natural light galore, plus big skylights on the second story.

Sweet SF Rental: Outer Mission 1-Bdrm, $1,200

You can get some great deals on sweet rentals in the Outer Mission of San Francisco. If you're willing to live slightly outside of the city hub, there are places you can rent that are both affordable and big. Better yet, you'll be able to park your car as well. (Try that while living in Lower Haight.)

$1,200 is a great price for what you get here. This is a ground floor unit in a three-story home, with its own private/secure entrance through both the front as well as the backyard.

If you're into security, this may be the apartment for you. It's part of a gated neighborhood that requires remote access to enter and exit. Throw in a reserved parking spot in front and you're ready to take on the world. And though you're not in central San Francisco, there's plenty of transportation to get you there.
Inside the apartment has both hardwood floors and carpeting (in the hallway, living room and bedroom).

Imagine the nice dinners you'll have in the newly remodeled kitchen with new stove, refrigerator, and plenty of cabinets.

We'll meet a pair of Florida swingers looking for an open-minded female roommate; a pimp who is willing to exchange rent if you work for him; a guy who is not willing to exchange sex for free rent, which leads me to believe that he would; and some weird Stepford-Wives situation involving bunk beds.

The huge privacy fence around the property is the first red flag. The request for a cute guy where it gets a little bit creepy too. The only key piece of information missing is that they have hidden cameras in each room to watch your every move.

Our Take:
Why do you need to computer literate and why is that in ALL CAPS!? And why the hell are the rooms set up with bunk beds? Will you be bunking with someone as well with the limited space for your belongs? The creepy line that gets me is "Your dignity will be 100% respected." That says to me, "Your dignity will not be 100% respected." What is Ralph up to here? Is he trying to harvest a household of Stepford Wives? Or is this the reorganization of the Heaven's Gate cult, where the rent will reduce once you board the Mothership?

Sweet SF Rental: Sunset District 3-Bdrm, $2,650

The best part about living out in the avenues in San Francisco is there's always parking. I've read stories about people who can actually park in front of their house on a regular basis.

This sweet rental is located in the Sunset District, which is a pretty great place to live. It has these really cozy neighborhoods with coffee shops and restaurants, and it's near Golden Gate Park and UCSF. The only problem is, it tends to be a bit cloudier than the rest of the city when the fog rolls in off the coast.

By why go out in the fog when you've got sweet a 3-bedroom, 1-bath rental on the ground floor of an awesome building.

Do you like entertaining and having dinner parties? This sweet rental is ideal. Not only does your sweet rental come equipped with hardwood floors and a decorative fireplace for those chilly San Francisco nights, but it also has a full-sized dining room and an eat-in kitchen. Take the house party out back, because there is also an adorable, shared backyard. (Hopefully the other tenants won't be one of these crazy San Francisco roommate-seekers.)

Sweet S.F. Rental: Remodeled Downtown 2BR, $2,250

This sweet rental is in a pretty cool locale.

Yes, this refurbished 2-bedroom flat is located within walking distance from USF hospital, Kezar Stadium, and the legendary hippie-haven of Haight-Ashbury. Still, if you get tired of those places, your sweet rental lies on the cusp of Golden Gate Park, which is great for biking or taking part in the Sunday drum circle.

Spend a day in Golden Gate playing Frisbee golf safe in the knowledge that you have 1,000 bright square feet to come home to. (But I'd recommend taking down that "For Rent" sign that's in the photo once you move in.)

This charming sweet rental is also near one my favorite shops Le Video. Hands down it's the best video store in the Bay Area. And most likely you'll be renting a lot of DVD's since I can't imagine you'll want to leave this sweet rental.

Everything is refurbished: from the new kitchen all the way to the refined hardwood floors that extend into the large living room. There's even laundry facilities on site. Get ready to save some cash because heat, water, and Scavenger Services are all include in the rental.

Sweet S.F. Rental: Tenderknob 1-Bdrm for $1,400

So what's it going to be hotshot? Do you want your San Francisco sweet rental to be a one bedroom or do you want to convert the living room and make it a two bedroom?

This apartment's big enough to do like many San Francisco renters do with their one-bedroom apartments: Convert the living room into an extra bedroom to save on rent. I've had friends, who've lived in the Tenderknob who even turned their large walk-in closet into an extra bedroom. But that's life in this City by the Bay.

This sweet rental sits right in the heart of the city. Locals call this neighborhood the Tenderknob because it rests between the Tenderloin and Knob Hill. But don't worry, this is a quiet, private unit; far from the street noise of bustling San Francisco (which is conveniently right outside its front door).
Take a good whiff of your new sweet rental. That's right, you are smelling fresh paint, hardwood floors, an in-unit washer/dryer and new mini blinds -- all situated in large rooms with high ceilings that create an airy, spacious atmosphere.

It gets better: Not only does the living room get plenty of light but it also overlooks breathtaking views of the city, such as San Francisco's famous rolling hills.

This is not a bad price for what you get. But consider the downtown location means it's always moving once you step outside your door. Also, there's no garage so parking can be a nightmare in this neighborhood -- with large parking tickets. So this apartment would probably only be a sweet rental for a San Francisco renter who doesn't drive.

Our Take: Can someone tell me what the hell is going on here?! Are your potential roommates pissing on the American flag??!! This is America where all roommates should be American. Do I need to get Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Patriots on your case and hunt you from a helicopter until you fill out a Craigslist roommate-wanted ad in English?

We are not a communal household but we are a collaborative one. We're looking for other body and sex positive, anti-racist, trans-friendly, community-oriented people who want to create a safe, non-oppressive space in which to live, share food, hang out, love, cry, rage, etc. You should be open to occasionally sharing meals, open communication, being creative about/conscious around shared space and the dynamics that go into it, partaking in household responsibilities, being conscious of/active in the neighborhood we'll be living in, and all that other stuff that makes a good house.
